Let Your Hope Grow Roots

by Kim Capps

Verse 1:

have you been feeling discouraged?

tired of keeping your chin up?

all you want is to give up  believing things can change

there’s no easy answer,  and there is so much hard work,

times when your heart hurts and you don’t know what to do.

keep your eyes , your heart and your mind upon the truth

Chorus:

and let your hope grow roots

let them dig into the dark earth

to be a lifeline,

for hope to flourish and grow—

it can grow legs  as strong & thick as tree trunks

and arms that stretch out like branches

and it will grow high as the mountains rise

high as the mountains rise

Verse 2:

there is so much we can learn, from those who came before us

their voices form  the  chorus of  the song that we now sing

you know they showed us how to dig deep, gave us wisdom that we can keep

their vision a substance that now pumps through our veins

when plants firmly rooted  start spreading--the landscape must change!

Bridge:

when others say no, we say yes--- there is a way!

when the world calls us crazy, we persist all the same!

give to every generation love and justice as foundation,

so long after our bodies our gone,

hope will still be marching on!

let your hope grow, let your hope grow

Chorus:

let your hope grow roots,

let them dig into the dark earth

so there will be a lifeline,

for hope to flourish and grow—

with great big  grow legs  as strong & thick as tree trunks

and arms that stretch out like branches

and our hope  will grow high,  our hope will grow high,

our hope will grow high

as the mountains rise, as the mountains rise

let your hope grow roots
